Wildlife Division consultations on the Non-Consumptive Wildlife-Use Regulations GN 196

The overall objective of the meeting is to seek and obtain opinions for the improvement of the GN196, prior to its implementation later this year. This consultation event is part of a Wildlife Division consultation initiative which is being facilitated in northern Tanzania jointly by the African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) and TNRF. The Stated Main Reform Objectives of the MKurabita are: • Providing the government with detailed policy, legal and institutional reform proposals, as well as an implementation strategy • Integrating extralegal real estate and businesses into the legal system in order to boost economic growth, reduce poverty, and eventually expand the tax base. • Getting the Poor majority who do not have access/titles to land have access to titled land and the capacity to use them economically.

Lake Natron: RAMSAR team to arrive for wide-ranging consultations

A RAMSAR Advisory Mission (RAM) is to arrive in-country on 17th February for a two week mission to collect the views of different stakeholders and lay the foundations for the preparation of a management plan for Lake Natron. The arrival of the mission comes as an application to construct and operate a Soda Ash Factory by Lake Natron Resources Ltd approaches an adavanced stage.
