Main objectives of the workshop

  •  Provide a forum for networking of the different players in plastic waste management
  • Increase awareness on the types & codes of plastics, their utilization and dangers of the misuse of plastics
  • Provide a forum that will enable plastics industries to fully take up the recycling program for cleaner production
  • Create an avenue for dissemination of information on plastic waste management to the general public
  • Avail an opportunity for the media to access more information on proper plastic waste management
  • Create an opportunity for more employment in the area of plastic waste management
  • Train and build capacity in the area of plastic waste management
  • Transform people’s poor attitude towards plastic waste management
  • Train local authorities on proper management of the dumping sites/sanitary landfills

 

Expected results

  •  

    Increased commitment towards corporate social responsibility among different organisations

  • Improved people’s attitude towards management of plastic waste i.e. looking at plastic waste as more of a resource than a waste

  • Increased willingness of the private sector’s involvement in the management of plastic waste

  • Gaining better understanding of different kinds of plastics used for packaging as well as dangers of misuse of plastics

  • Knowledge will be gained on how to sort different plastics in support of plastic recycling industries

  • Improved willingness of the transport industry’s involvement in the management of plastic waste

  • Shared experiences and measurable solutions suggested towards plastic waste management

  • Increased willingness of plastics industries to adopt cleaner production program

  • Increased understanding on the need to protect employees involved in waste management

  • There will be increased understanding on proper identification of plastics best for the construction industry

  • Understanding of the main determinants for a successful plastic recycling program

  • Acquiring of knowledge on proper management of the dumping sites
