Regional Training Workshop on Plastic Waste Management
Main objectives of the workshop
- Provide a forum for networking of the different players in plastic waste management
- Increase awareness on the types & codes of plastics, their utilization and dangers of the misuse of plastics
- Provide a forum that will enable plastics industries to fully take up the recycling program for cleaner production
- Create an avenue for dissemination of information on plastic waste management to the general public
- Avail an opportunity for the media to access more information on proper plastic waste management
- Create an opportunity for more employment in the area of plastic waste management
- Train and build capacity in the area of plastic waste management
- Transform people’s poor attitude towards plastic waste management
- Train local authorities on proper management of the dumping sites/sanitary landfills
Expected results

Increased commitment towards corporate social responsibility among different organisations

Improved people’s attitude towards management of plastic waste i.e. looking at plastic waste as more of a resource than a waste

Increased willingness of the private sector’s involvement in the management of plastic waste

Gaining better understanding of different kinds of plastics used for packaging as well as dangers of misuse of plastics

Knowledge will be gained on how to sort different plastics in support of plastic recycling industries
