Rangelands Policy Study - Technical Consultation

In early 2007, Pastoralist Women Council, Tanzania Natural Resource Forum (with the support of WCS-AHEAD), Community Research and Development Services (CORDS) and International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) East African Programme initiated a study on Options for Pastoralists to Secure their Livelihoods in Tanzania. The study was undertaken by a team of Consultants with expertise and experience in policy, economic, legal and natural resources aspects of pastoralism. The study team comprised of Dr. Ringo Tenga (Team Leader) and Dr. Sengondo Mvungi (legal component); Professor Amon Mattee and Dr. Martin Walsh ( Policy Component), and Professor Ntengua Mdoe ( Economics/investment component). The study was funded by CORDAID, Trocaire, Ireland Aid and World Conservation Society. The study was carried out between August and November 2007. The objectives of the technical consultation are: 1) To present study findings2) To comment on the study reports3) To fill in information gaps 4) To brainstorm and hold a consultation on strategies and the way forward Inputs from the workshop will be incorporated into the Study Report and at a later date, a similar event will be organized to strategise and map out the way forward.
