FCF operates in several protected areas in Tanzania to conserve wildlife & wilderness and work with local stakeholders of these natural resources. The Community Development Coordinator oversees the department which strives to addresses issues of poverty and growing human pressure on natural resources at a community level. The position involves a wide range of responsibilities from sourcing and reporting on donor funding to community relations and direct implementation of projects.

Place of Work: Arusha

Field Travel Required (Districts): Arusha, Shinyanga, Kigoma, Tabora, Rukwa

Qualifications:

Bachelors or Masters Degree in a Field Pertinent to Conservation and Community Development (e.g. Community Conservation, Wildlife Management, Development Studies etc.)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Sound Knowledge of Environmental and Conservation issues in Tanzania
  • Commitment to Community Development
  • Strong Grasp of Written and Spoken Swahili & Fluent in English
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Internet Applications

Credentials and Experience

  • 3 years experience in community development at project management level
  • Experience in environmental education
  • Experience in community rights and advocacy
  • Experience in supervising staff & personnel management

Special Requirements and Advantages:

  • Willingness to travel extensively and stay in remote rural areas
  • Knowledge of Maasai culture and pastoralist issues
  • Valid driving license
