Land issues remain central to major debates around rural development, in particular their role in developing the agricultural sector in developing countries. Governments, local communities, donors, civil society organizations, academia, and the private sector around the globe are increasingly showing concerns and action to address the growing number of land-based conflicts.

Kwa muda mrefu sasa kumekuwepo na taarifa za kupotosha kupitia baadhi ya vyombo vya habari ikiwemo kipindi Maalum kilichoitwa Loliondo Special kilichorushwa Channel Ten tarehe 10 Januari 2015 na kurudiwa tarehe 17 na pia kupitia makala iliyochapishwa kwenye gazeti Gazeti la Jamhuri toleo namba 171 la tarehe 13-19 Januari 2015 yenye kichwa cha habari, “Shirika hili ni hatari kwa usalama wa Taifa” na gazeti la Jamhuri la tarehe 18-24 November 2014 toleo namba 163 lenye kichwa cha habari “Wakenya, NGOS wanavyoivuruga Loliondo”.

Sisi Asasi za Kiraia kwa ujumla wetu baada ya kuchambua na kufuatilia upotashaji huu tuna mambo haya ya kusema: Kwanza tunalaani vitisho na propaganda zote chafu zinazofanywa na OBC, Wizara ya Maliasili na Mbunge wa Ngorongoro dhidi ya ASASI za Kiraia na watetezi wote wa ardhi ya wafugaji loliondo, Pili tunapenda kutoa ufafanuzi wa upotoshaji mkubwa unaofanywa na makundi hayojuu ya mgogoro wa ardhi wa Loliondo, Tatu tunaitaka OBC pamoja na Mbunge kuacha kutumia nguvu nyingi na pesa kuigawa jamii ya Ngorongoro kwa lengo la kutaka kupokonya ardhi yao.

The Land Policy Initiative (LPI) organized the Inaugural Conference on Land Policy in Africa from 11 to 14 November 2014 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The conference carried a key theme “The next decade of land policy in Africa: ensuring agricultural development and inclusive growth.” This theme was selected in support of the declaration of 2014 by the African Union as the “Year of Agriculture and Food Security in Africa”. I attended the conference on behalf of Tanzania Natural Resource Forum (TNRF) and have gathered number of key points that can be used by members of TNRF and many other actors in the country. Throughout the conference issues that relate to land tenure, sustainable large-scale investment, small-scale farming, rights of the commons and women rights were given more attention.
