Civil society in Tanzania reacts to CoP15

In March this year in Tanzania a civil society forum on climate change provided its members with a report of CoP15 - a way for grassroots organizations in Tanzania to learn about the main outcomes and strategize local action to mitigate and adapt to climate change. Over 150 participants from mostly Tanzania, including partner activists from Uganda and Kenya, convened in Dar es Salaam for a 2-day session to learn and plan a coordinated reaction.

In the following podcast activists and decision-makers from Tanzania reflect on the impact of climate change in their country. The 5-minute piece profiles the work of ForumCC and shares the reactions of local movers and shakers to the international debate around CoP15 and the international climate movement.

It is the work of ForumCC to help keep the climate debate in Tanzania constructive and to feed in new information from the international scene. In the aftermath of overwhelming and somewhat disappointing negotiations at CoP15, everyday people in Tanzania still struggle to pursue sustainable and dignified livelihoods in the face of difficult climate conditions.

ForumCC - also known as the Tanzanian Civil Society Forum on Climate Change - is an association of civil society organisations committed to work on climate change in their own programmes as well as through advocacy. ForumCC exists to ensure effective and informed engagement of Civil Society Organisations in Tanzania on Climate Change issues for the benefit of the environment and people in poverty who are affected.

The future of ForumCC rests largely in the availability of information about the international climate change debate. Through social networking sites ForumCC is helping its members make the link with the international community of climate activists.
