ForumCC - the Tanzania Civil Society Forum on Climate Change - welcomes applications for its first Project Manager. Responding to the growing impact of climate change in Tanzania, ForumCC is creating a platform for learning, dialogue and joint action among civil society organizations in Tanzania. In the preparations for the international meeting on climate change in Copenhagen - UNFCCC COP15- ForumCC took the lead in bringing together civil society, government, development partners and the private sector to share information.

ForumCC membership is made up of CSOs working on a range of issues in sustainable development, poverty reduction, environmental conservation, as well as climate change mitigation and adaptation. Based in Dar es Salaam, the Project Manager will be responsible for the daily coordination of ForumCC activities, which include event planning, mass communications and desktop publishing.

Responsibilities:

This management and communications post reports to and facilitates the functioning of the ForumCC Coordination Team as well as coordinating membership and liaising with government and the private sector. Specifically, s/he will:

  • Coordinate the overall strategy for ForumCC incorporating inputs from the Coordination Team, and the general membership;
  • Keep track of the work plan for ForumCC;
  • Communicate with the Coordination Team, donors, and relevant Steering Committees regarding administrative issues as well as project updates and reporting;
  • Manage production of FORUMCC publications;
  • Plan all ForumCC events, including member meetings and public occasions;
  • Develop and maintain contacts with the media and a media profile, as well as contacts with relevant entertainers for enhancing public relations on climate change issues;
  • Track and share information among members of the Forum and the broader public on Tanzanian positions, policies and implementation of climate change initiatives.
  • Maintain the administration of the organisation including membership, filing and keeping track of finances.

Qualifications:

ForumCC is looking for a hard working and exceptional professional who has the following qualities and skills:

  • A highly articulate and innovative communicator with excellent interpersonal skills;
  • A sound track record of rural extension and communications practice;
  • Strong experience in developing and rolling out effective communications programmes;
  • A successful track record in working with government institutions and programmes;
  • A proficient understanding of environmental, natural resource management and governance issues, and poverty reduction;
  • Advanced writing and speaking skills in both Kiswahili and English;
  • Experience in desktop/graphic design and/or film and/or radio production, and/or theatre and/or publication content development would be an asset;
  • A self-starter willing to take initiative, be self-evaluative and learn quickly and often work alone;
  • Excellent organizational, team leadership and time management skills;

Terms:

  • A one-year contract with a four month probationary period, based in Dar es Salaam
  • A competitive salary and benefits package (available for leading candidates)
  • The successful candidate should be prepared to start early in 2010.
