THE NATIONAL ENGAGEMENT STRATEGY (NES)

This launching workshop is organised by TALA and TNRF.

Introduction

The International Land Coalition (ILC) Africa brings together its members and partners to launch the national engagement strategy (NES) for Tanzania. In addressing its mission in Africa, International Land Coalition (ILC) supports National Engagement Strategy (NES) in 10 Countries in Africa including Tanzania and aims to address strategic objectives: “Connect, Mobilize and Influence”.

A NES is a strategy that aims to promote people centered land governance (PCLG), bringing about transformation in land governance at country level. The NES approach is to work towards two main outcomes:

  • The setting-up of a multi-stakeholder platform on land governance for policy dialogue and knowledge sharing; and
  • A country strategy for engagement on land governance developed and agreed upon by all actors involved.

The 3rd National CBNRM Forum, Tanzania

Theme: “There is more to be done to fully unlock wildlife potentials in Tanzania”

Introduction and Background:

  1. This May, TNRF is set to host the 3rdNational CBNRM Forum in Tanzania following its Launch and Approval of CBNRM Stocktaking Report in 2012.
  2. TNRF begun a process to establish a series of dialogues on Community Based Natural Resource Management (CBNRM) with the aim of providing a platform for multi-stakeholder exchange of information and agreeing on a common course for CBNRM success in Tanzania. In 2012, TNRF undertook a stocktaking exercise of CBNRM in forestry, fisheries and Wildlife in Tanzania which also recommended the need for establishing a national level platform named National CBNRM forum to help disseminate information on CBNRM success stories, share experiences and promote a greater understanding of the actions and enabling environment on CBNRM that can lead to improved social, economical and environmental benefits. While facilitating engagement at the national level, TNRF has also joined a regional civil society network on CBNRM issues, called Southern Africa CBNRM Forum (SACF) whose secretariat is based in Lusaka-Zambia. Joining SACF helps to promote South-to-South exchange on CBNRM issues and experience. Similar efforts are also made to promote South-to-North linkages through exchange dialogues.
  3. To further promote CBNRM among other tasks, TNRF and WWF Tanzania through its Coastal East Africa Initiative entered a 3-years partnership programme on Land and forest-based investments programme on forest and land-based investments in Tanzania (2014-2017). The programme is geared towards building constructive dialogue with wide range of stakeholders including private sector, Government, civil society organizations to address and contribute to responsible investments on land and forests. With funds from WWF-Finland, among others, the partnership programme provide for support to hold National CBRNM fora in Tanzania.

Yaliyojiri katika warsha ya wafanyabiashara wa mbao/magogo wa uwanda wa Selous-Ruvuma, tarehe 19 Februari 2016; katika hoteli ya Double M, Lindi mjini

Jumuiko la Maliasili Tanzania (Tanzania Natural Resource Forum-TNRF) pamoja na washirika wake; Shirika la Kuhifadhi Mpingo na Maendeleo-MCDI, Mtandao wa Jamii wa Usiamizi wa Misitu Tanzania-MJUMITA na Shirika la WWF Tanzania, liliandaa warsha ya siku moja ya wafanyabiashara wa mbao/magogo wa uwanda wa Selous-Ruvuma iliyofanyika siku ya Ijumaa tarehe 19 Februari 2016, Lindi Mjini. Katika uwanda huu wa Selous-Ruvuma, Shirika la WWF Tanzania linafanya kazi na washirika wake (MCDI na MJUMITA) ili kueneza shughuli za Usimamizi Shirikishi wa Misitu (USM).  Warsha hii ya wafanyabiashara iliandaliwa ili kuongeza nguvu katika jitihada hizi kwa kuimarisha mijadala na wafanyabiashara wa mbao/magogo juu ya mambo muhimu yanayosibu biashara ya mazao ya misitu.

Warsha ilikuwa na malengo makubwa mawili: (1) kuwasilisha kwa wafanyabiasha fursa zilizopo za kufanya uvunaji katika misitu ya hifadhi za vijiji (ikilinganishwa na uvunaji katika misitu ya wazi), na (2) kutoa ufafanuzi wa mambo ya kitaalam yahusuyo upimaji na ukadiriaji wa ujazo wa mbao/magogo.

Washiriki wa warsha walikuwa kwenye makundi yafuatayo:

  • Wawakilishi wa wafanyabiashara ya mbao na magogo kutoka uwanda wa Selous-Ruvuma (Kilwa, Liwale, Ruangwa, Rufiji, Nachingwea, Tunduru, Lindi, Masasi)
  • Wawakilishi wa Mamlaka husika za Serikali (Mf. Wakala wa Misitu Tanzania, Idara ya Misitu na Nyuki, TRA)
  • Wawakilishi wa Vijiji vyenye misitu ya hifadhi ((Kilwa, Liwale, Ruangwa, Rufiji, Nachingwea, Tunduru, Lindi, Masasi)
  • Taasisi za Kiraia na Miradi (Jumuiko la Maliasili Tanzania, Kampeni ya Mama Misitu, Shirika la Kuhifadhi Mpingo na Maendeleo, MJUMITA, WWF Tanzania
