Developing a Framework for African Development Bank’s Enhanced engagement with CSOs

The African Development Bank invited TNRF to serve as a panelist in a seminar aimed at strategizing and defining a way forward for effective engagement between the Bank and civil society organizations (CSOs). Specifically, TNRF was asked to share experiences and strategies on how the Bank can operationalize the framework with CSOs at project level. TNRF's Head of Programmes, Geofrey Mwanjela, served on a panel with other CSOs from across Africa (Ghana, Kenya, Benin, Cameroon, Tunis, South Africa), and participated in discussions that ranged from issues of natural resources, human rights, gender, and education to agriculture. The Bank's senior staff, including the first Vice President, participated in the discussions.

Bringing Forestry Governance, Climate Change and Drylands Issues to Parliament

Last Saturday TNRF provided a training sessions on natural resource issues to the Parliamentary Committee on Land, Natural Resources and Environment in Dodoma. The training covered two major areas - climate change and pastoralism, and forest governance, specifically focusing on independent forest monitoring. The training also touched on the constitutional review process as well as conflict mediation efforts in light of climate change in Tanzania's drylands.

Legal Tools Radio Series

Legal Tools Radio Series

TNRF, working in collaboration with the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), is implementing a program to increase awareness about natural resource and investment laws and policies in Tanzania so that Tanzanians are able to protect their rights to their land and resources. TNRF has produced a radio series that breaks down the legal jargon around land and investment laws, making them more accessible and understandable to your average citizen.

Contributions towards the New Constitution: Natural Resources, Environment, and Crosscutting Issues

On January 16th, the Constitutional Review Commission invited TNRF and two other NGOs - HakiArdhi and SHARINGO - to present civil society's views and opinions about the role of natural resources and environmental issues in the constitution.  Following a one-day workshop where TNRF collected input from CSOs, TNRF presented the opinions on the new constitution to the Commission.  The Commission provided feedback and TNRF will submit all final opinions to the Commission by January 25th.
