A convergence of factors has been driving a revaluation of land by powerful economic and political actors. This is occurring across the world, but especially in the global South. As a result, we are seeing a dramatic rise in the extent of cross-border, transnational corporation-driven and, in some cases foreign government-driven, large-scale land deals unfolding worldwide.
I am acting as country coordinator for Tanzania on behalf of Debatewise for their Global Youth Panel. Debatewise is forming a panel of 1,000 young people from more than 100 different countries to debate the issues and decisions from the Copenhagen Climate Conference in December.
It is no exaggeration to say that this is the most important environmental conference to ever take place. What happens there will be felt by all of us for years to come. If you care about the environment you should be thinking about what you can do to make your voice heard.
