5-day Teacher Educators’ course

The SADC REEP is running a five day EE/ESD Course for experienced Teacher Educators from teacher training colleges from 29th June - 4th July 2009, at Umgeni Valley, in Howick, RSA. The course among other outcomes seeks to

  • Support Teacher Educators to get a better understanding of how to integrate environmental education / ESD into existing teacher education programmes in their countries and in the SADC Region.
  • Be oriented towards regional knowledge exchange
  • Link participants to key Teacher Education networks that are useful for their support requirements.
  • Address key aspects of teacher education such as EE and curriculum, methods for EE in different subject areas.
  • Be oriented towards reflexive workplace learning (i.e. participants engage on a change project aims at improving their functions in the participating teacher education institutions).
  • Challenge participants on how to address critical issues such as climate change, water scarcity etc. in teacher education theory and practice
  • Expose the teacher educators to key resources that are appropriate for supporting teacher education.

Upon acceptance participants will be required to identify an EE/ESD change project that they will bring with them to the course. The course will be built around this change project. In addition participants will be expected to contribute case examples of how their institutions are dealing with EE/ ESD.
