Film Project Coordinator

Organization:
Community based Biodiversity Conservation Films
Deadline:
11 May 2009

We are looking for an enthusiastic, environmentally motivated candidate to fill the position of Project Coordinator for CBCF (see www.conservationfilms.org). This job is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a desire to learn film-making skills, as well as to make a difference to organisations working in environmental conservation in Tanzania.

As our representative in Tanzania, the candidate should be fluent in both English and Kiswahili, as well as having experience at working productively on a community level.

As our technical point of call in Tanzania, the candidate must be very computer literate and able to pick up new software quickly. The job will ultimately involve using Apple Mac computers and Final Cut Pro editing software, so previous experience of these is an advantage, although not necessarily required for the right candidate. However, a strong desire and self-motivation to learn film-making and editing skills is essential. Please include details of previous experience in film-making in your application. For the first month and a half, the successful candidate will shadow an experienced film-maker and will be required to pick up all the relevant skills through her.

The position's main responsibilities will be:

  1. To promote the resource to conservation groups and encourage proposals to be submitted.
  2. To take overall responsibility for all aspects of film production on behalf of Tanzanian conservation groups, including scripting, filming, editing. But also to show initiative in terms of what tasks can be delegated, including providing volunteer work for local film-makers, and providing ad-hoc training to the environmental organisations involved, such that they can become more self-sufficient in film production themselves.
  3. To manage a growing film archive / library and media office. This may also include producing a regular environmental series for Tanzanian television.

The post will be hosted by the Tanzania Natural Resource Forum (www.tnrf.org) and will work alongside the Maajabu film screening unit (www.maajabu.tnrf.org).

How to Apply:

To apply, please send a CV, including any film making experience, and a covering letter to ben.please 'at' conservationfilms.org by the May 12th 2009.
