We are looking for an enthusiastic, environmentally motivated candidate, full of initiative, computer literate on Apple computers with a good working knowledge of Final Cut film editing software and with experience and passion for environmental conservation. The person will work along side Maajabu film screening unit, part of the Tanzania Natural Resource Forum in Arusha, but representing a Darwin Initiative funded (UK) project called Community-based Biodiversity Conservation Films (CBCF, www.biodiversityconservationfilms.org).

CBCF is a 3 year project that provides film training, and equipment to any organisation working in environmental / biodiversity conservation in Tanzania (and also Kenya). It encourages and facilitates the production and use of low-budget but well thought out, targeted films to engage audiences to various environmental topics and activities, as dictated by those asking for this assistance.

Maajabu, a film team that takes videos to villages and schools throughout Tanzania, is a new initiative under the Tanzania Natural Resource Forum (TNRF). Maajabu has been running for the last five years showing educational films about the environment and natural resource management. Maajabu offers a form of education that is effective and at the same time enjoyable. Maajabu has worked in 6 regions in Tanzania and in the last year alone 50,000 people saw films brought by the Maajabu team.

TNRF is an NGO based in Arusha working since 2003 to facilitate dialogue between communities, government and civil society on sustainable natural resource management.
The main roles will be to:

  1. To promote the resource to conservation groups and encourage proposals to be submitted.
  2. To take overall responsibility for all aspects of film production on behalf of Tanzanian conservation groups, including scripting, filming, editing. But also to show initiative in terms of what tasks can be delegated, including providing volunteer work for local film-makers, and providing ad-hoc training to the environmental organisations involved, such that they can become more self-sufficient in film production themselves.
  3. To manage a growing film / archive library.

Terms:

  • A one year contract with a four month probationary period, based in Arusha;
  • A strongly competitive salary and benefits package is available for leading candidates;
  • The successful candidate should be prepared to start the first week of March 2009.
