WWF Biofuel Workshop - Initiating a dialogue for national guidelines

WWF is organizing a national workshop to initiate dialogue among interested parties on developing National Guidelines on Biofuel investments in Tanzania. The workshop is planned at Oasis Hotel, Morogoro from 9th to 11th June 2008. This initiative comes as stakeholders recognize that Tanzania has approved a number of biofuel development projects and that globally there are divided ideas on issues related to biofuels investments. The main objective of this workshop is to allow key stakeholders to initiate dialogue on biofules basing on global experiences that will lead into developing national guidelines/framework with respect to national policies that will guide sound decision making on future Biofuel investments in Tanzania while taking cognizance of other on-going important developments. WWF network particularly WWF Sweden has shown interest to support this initiative, and have provided some seed money to engage consultants (Energy for Sustainable Development - ESD) to carry out a situation analysis on Biofuel investments in the country and elsewhere across the world focusing on opportunities and challenges that come with these investments. The workshop is thus expected to provide input in this process and agree on how best Tanzania could improve future investments in this new business.
