Mtandao wa Jamii wa Usimamizi wa Misitu Tanzania (MJUMITA) is Tanzania’s Community Forestry Network, working in support of sustainable community forest management.  Its mission is to create awareness, Build capacity and Link Communities with Local Networks (CBOs) for increased participation of stakeholders in Advocacy and decision making on ownership, management and utilization of forest products.

MJUMITA in partnership with the Tanzania Forest Conservation Group (TFCG) are implementing an advocacy initiative entitled “Forest Justice in Tanzania”. The goal of the project is that forest ecosystem services are conserved for the benefit of the nation and local communities. The project will achieve this through four interlinked strategies relating to monitoring forest governance and forest condition; enforcement promotion; research, analysis and communication; and agreeing standards.

As part of this project, MJUMITA is seeking applications from qualified Tanzanian women and men for the following position:

Zonal Coordinators (position is for 24 months – to be stationed in Iringa, Kigoma and Babati)

Qualifications and experience

  • A BS or higher degree in natural resource management or related degree.
  • 2 years experience working with rural communities in Tanzania
  • Familiarity with community based wildlife or forest management.
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and listening skills.
  • A proven personal commitment to environmental conservation.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce high quality reports.
  • Valid drivers license and experience driving a motorcycle.
  • S/he will be a Tanzanian National with excellent written and spoken English and Swahili.

Responsibilities

  • Managing Zonal offices - Answering a hotline, providing advice regarding forest governance and protection, entering forest crime cases into web tool, connecting community members to appropriate authorities, and following up reported cases of forest crimes.
  • Attending MJUMITA network meetings throughout his or her zone to present finding on forest crime and coordinate MJUMITA zonal level activities.
