  1. Overview

The Tanzania Natural Resource Forum (TNRF) is a network organization registered in 2006 as a Non-Governmental Organization. It aims to achieve improved natural resource governance for sustainable rural livelihoods and better conservation outcomes. TNRF bridges the gap between people’s local natural resource management needs and practices, and national natural resource management priorities, policies, laws and programs. As a network organization, it brings together members to change policy and practice in the natural resource sector for the better by:

  • Building and sharing a knowledge base of practice; and
  • Strengthening citizen voice and skills for improved natural resource governance.

TNRF supports its members by improving communication, sharing information, promoting collaboration and strengthening collective action. It remains flexible so it can effectively respond to emerging natural resource issues in Tanzania, while at the same time TNRF has identified key strategic areas of engagement where it seeks to bring about positive change. TNRF facilitates platforms to strengthen dialogue and information sharing and to enable advocacy and strengthen citizens’ voices.

Website is one of the most important advocacy tools at TNRF. It is a platform than showcase organisation activities and raise awareness to TNRF members/stakeholder and other target audiences. Therefore, TNRF is looking for a dynamic, self motivated individual with experience and skills in IT and web content management, writing and editing for the web, graphic design and site management. The IT and website officer will be responsible on developing, configuring and support computer applications; designing, editing and proofreading site content. This person will work closely with the communication and advocacy team to maintain website standards. The IT and website officer will also be responsible for designing and email communication and advocacy info briefs and newsletters, maintaining and managing info databases and other online advocacy campaigns. All these tasks require a strong attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines.

  1. Purpose of the position

  • To maintain the TNRF website and provide in-house technical assistance in design and branding of TNRF publications and to provide internal communications support.
  • To monitor and maintain computer systems and network.
  1. Core responsibilities

Website:

  • To lead the development, maintenance and quality control of all TNRF’s website properties and ensure that the site remains user-friendly and valuable to all TNRF stakeholders
  • To ensure that all materials up-loaded onto the web are approved by the communication and advocacy coordinator
  • To improve and expand TNRF’s website service through introducing innovative and creative tools that are conducive to the general TNRF audience
  • To ensure frequent update of website information on ongoing organisation events/activities
  • To use web content management systems and tools to analyse website usage statistics, provide documentation and reporting
  • To monitor and provide relevant maintenance to TNRF’s website hosting servers
  • To provide expertise on newly emerging electronic tools such as online networking forums, video networks, blogs etc.

Publications and design:

  • To design all communications and advocacy publications
  • To supervise printing process and quality of printed materials
  • To develop and maintain TNRF branding through development of graphic guidelines for all (new) publications and communications (e.g. MS PowerPoint templates) and provide assistance and training to staff on usage

Database, network, e-mail:

  • To oversee and organise TNRF’s membership database and membership relations, list serves, secretariat e-mail accounts and TNRF online library resources
  • Troubleshooting system and network problems and diagnosing and solving hardware or software faults
  • To set up and manage staff e-mail accounts and monitor account loads and to develop other internal electronic communications systems to improve internal communication    

IT support:

  • Installing and configure computer hardware operating systems and applications
  • Monitoring and maintaining computer systems and networks
  • Testing and evaluating new technology
  1. Outputs

  • Well maintained user-friendly up-to-date TNRF website
  • Clear positive recognisable image of TNRF in all external publications and communications
  • Internal communication systems in place
  1. Required Qualifications and desirable attributes                  

  • A degree in IT, Computer science or any other related field
  • Training in computer graphics packages such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign and Adobe Fireworks
  • Knowledge of data-driven web applications and programming, HTML5 programming, and other web development languages and technologies.
  • Experience in website development and maintenance using Content Management Systems with intermediate to advanced level knowledge of Drupal and Wordpress
  • Experience with a variety of operating systems such as Windows, Macintosh and Linux.
  • Since computer technology changes rapidly, it is required to constantly stay abreast of new developments in graphics software packages as well as those in the World Wide Web and related technologies.
  • Fluent in English and preferably Kiswahili (speaking and writing)
  • A minimum of three years experience in the same field
