Climate Change Advocacy Officer Position

Tanzania Civil Society Forum on Climate Change (ForumCC) is seeking to recruit a dynamic and resourceful person to lead and manage our advocacy and campaigning on Climate Change in Tanzania. (Forum CC) is an association of organisations committed to work on climate change (CC) in their own programmes as well as through advocacy.  It has become the widest network on CC amongst civil society groups involving key national, international development and environment organisations. It brings together development and environment organizations, those with technical skills and those with a more delivery and advocacy focus. 

Role of CC Advocacy Officer

The main role for the CC Advocacy Officer is to initiate and lead the development and implementation of a clear campaign for ForumCC and its members. This will be done in collaboration with the ForumCC Programme Manager and the ForumCC members, with the CC Advocacy Officer contributing to strengthening the advocacy component of a range of ForumCC activities and leading on some.

More specifically, your role will involve maintaining an overview of the situation as it relates to climate change at national, regional and international level; participating in information sharing forums and relationship-building with key internal and external stakeholders; and strengthening the advocacy capacity of ForumCC by developing a clear advocacy strategy and managing the delivery of that strategy through a corresponding implementation plan. You will participate in all ForumCC meetings and discussions; develop communication materials and lead on media engagement. Other duties will include supporting ForumCC to undertake advocacy and campaigning activities, (e.g. research initiatives, popular mobilisation and thematic workshops); planning and implementing of ForumCC capacity building events; and represent Forum CC in external meetings.


·      At least a degree in natural resources management field.

·      At least two years advocacy experience within the field of climate change, Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and/or natural resource management.

·      At least one year experience of working with civil society organisations.

·      Excellent communication skills with capacity to explain complex issues.

·      Proven experience in measuring impacts of advocacy campaigns.

·      Strong analytical and conceptual skills.

·      Team work and relationship-building with stakeholders, Demonstrate skills in organizing your work and working effectively with others.

·      Computer literate

·      Able to work in multi-cultural environment, trustworthy, reliable, honest and accountable, with a demonstrable commitment to Forum CC’s mission, aims and objectives.

·      A post graduate qualification is an advantage as well as NGO experience.
