Pastoralist Livelihoods Task Force updates on research about pastoralist and ranching meat production

The Pastoralist Livelihoods Task Force will meet to receive updates from the research projects on valuing meat production from pastoralist and ranching systems. The research was commissed by the PLTF in 2009 to understand the contribution from both forms of meat production to the national economy. Funded by the International Institute for Environment and Development, Ereto Ngorongoro Pastoralist Project (now finished) and VetAid Tanzania, the partners in the PLTF collaboratively conducted the research.

Mama Misitu Evaluation Briefing

In late 2009 the Finnish Embassy commissioned the University of Dar es Salaam's Department of Economics to review the Mama Misitu Campaign on Illegal Logging. The evaluation report, submitted in January 2010, assesses the impact of the campaign in relation to its goals. The campaign, which is a project of the Tanzania Forest Working Group, finished its pilot phase in December 2009. The evaluation is an important part of planning for the full implementation of the campaign in 2010.

Remembrance for Alan Rodgers

Please join us in a get-together to remember and celebrate Alan Rodgers at the Little Theatre in Dar es Salaam on 9th April 2010. Alan died on Tuesday 31st March 2009. Please pass this invitation on to anyone who knew or worked with Alan - everyone is very welcome.

Colleagues are warmly invited to contribute a short talk of no more than 15-20 minutes about a piece of work related to or collaboratively carried out with Alan.

Tanzania Forestry Working Group meeting

A regular meeting of the Tanzania Forestry Working Group - Discussion topics will include the implementation phase of the Mama Misitu Campaign against illegal logging, the next steps for Independent Forest Monitoring in Tanzania after the design phase, and the establishment of a Forest Governance Learning Group in Tanzania.
