Tanzania Natural Resource Forum (TNRF) and its members express their deep sorrow following the death of Wayne Lotter, founder and chairman of PAMS Foundation. Wayne Lotter was shot and killed by unknown people on Wednesday 16th August 2017 in Dar es Salaam.

It’s widely known that for decades, Wayne dedicated his life to protecting Africa’s wildlife, supporting government initiatives on anti-poaching and worked closely with natural resources actors and partners to ensure wildlife is well protected and conserved.

He undertook tremendous work in Tanzania protecting elephant and other wildlife, establishing himself as a trusted supporter and friend to field rangers and the communities adjacent to wildlife protected areas.

Wayne and PAMS have been among the individuals and organizations that support the TNRF’s members and partners’ initiatives onwildlife conservation for the well-being of communities adjacent to protected areas. His push for community - driven conservation is a legacy that TNRF and the wider conservation fraternity in Tanzania will continue to honor.

In Wayne Lotter, we have lost a hero who did not fear the mighty powers of wildlife poachers and traffickers.  His contribution in Tanzania will always be remembered by our members. Let us inform wildlife poachers and traffickers that the killing of Wayne Lotter will neither silence us nor deter our actions against wildlife poaching and trafficking.

TNRF condemns in the strongest terms the murder of Wayne Lotterand appealsto the authorities in Tanzania to investigate this heinous act and bringall those involvedto justice.

Our heartfelt grief and condolences go out to his wife, children and relatives, PAMS staff, partners, and Tanzania Natural Resources actors affected and paralyzed by the event.
