PARTICIPATORY RANGELAND MANAGEMENT POLICY ENGAGEMENTS WITH DIFFERENT GOVERNMENT MINISTRIES

On 30th November 2019, Participatory Rangeland Management (PRM) and Sustainable Rangeland Management Project (SRMP) partners; International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), Tanzania Natural Resource Forum (TNRF), National Land Use Planning Commission (NLUPC), Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries Development (MLFD), KINNAPA, NAADUTARO, Kiteto District Council (KDC) had the opportunity to meet with the Deputy Minister and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries Development Hon. Abdalla Ullega and permanent secretary Hon. Prof Gabriel.

The meeting was processed through presentations on the overview of both projects by the MLDF, Land Use Planning process by NLUPC, joint village land use planning process in four clusters (OLENGAPA, NAPALAI, KIMBO and ALLOLE) of Kiteto District and finally role of PRM in management of secured grazing areas by TNRF. On his part, the Deputy Minister appreciated the projects for following the legal framework during the land use planning process and involving the community to help secure the grazing areas. The Permanent Secretary advised and stressed the importance of involving the ministry in projects implementation to align them to the policies and various strategic plans. Ministry will thus give maximum support to the PRM project to support management of the secured grazing areas as SRMP is just phasing out.
