Private Forestry Programme (PFP) wishes to recruit a Tanzanian or other East African, Forest and Market
Information System Manager to work in the Timber Growers Association (TGA) apex body service centre; which is to be developed in the Southern Highlands of Tanzania. The successful candidate will develop and operate a forest information system relating to plantation pine, eucalyptus, and teak forests in the Southern Highlands and Kilombero valley of Tanzania. In addition, s/he will develop and operate a related market  system to link and integrate hundreds of growers who want to sell with buyers.
The TGA apex body Forest and Market Information Systems manager will 'work inside the TGA apex body and answer to the TGA apex body professional forester /service manager. S/he will also report directly to the PFPTL and collaborate with the PFP GIS expert. S/he will also work with other development partners in strengthening the TGA networks and the information services provided to their TGA members.

Duty station: Southern Highlands of Tanzania (Njombe)

Duration: To be recruited and deployed as soon as possible, and to be retained full-time up to 31 December 2017. Further employment may be possible depending on success of the service centre in securing additional financing. .

Specific responsibilities:
The TGA apex body Forest and Market Information Systems manager will:

Develop and operate forest and market information systems for timber growers in the Southern Highlands and Kilombero Valley of Tanzania
Manage and consolidate TGA reporting on their operations and sales.

Provide periodic and impromptu information system reports to stakeholders and also communicate information to those who are unable to use the system
Strengthen monitoring and evaluation of PFP. interventions
Strengthen the provision of accessible forest resource information to participating forest based industries to facilitate their operational and strategic planning
Produce map and tabular outputs as requested by the apex body and PFP
Undertake other tasks as may be requested by the Team Leader

Qualifications:
Masters degree or higher in GIS
Recognized qualification in computer science
Proven capability in developing GIS and RS geo-databases
Proven capability in developing and operating information systems
Excellent communication skills and ability to interact comfortably with rural communities and senior officials
