The Accountability in Tanzania (AcT) Programme is now accepting Ideas for Change that are related to Climate Change & Environment Initiatives only. This fund was launched on 1 December 2011 and is being supported by DANIDA and UKAid through the Department for International Development (DFID). Organizations need to submit a one page concept note detailing their Idea for Change.

Climate Change Information Brief

TNRF and ForumCC just published a new information brief, "Climate Change Policy in Tanzania – Is It Needed?"  The brief explores the current climate change policies and strategies in Tanzania (or the lack thereof).  Specifically, it looks at the impact that climate change is and will continue to have on development efforts in Tanzania, and it offers recommendations to ensure that development efforts are not undermined by climate change.

ForumCC is teaming up the Dar es Salaam City Council to host a joint event celebrating World Environment Day.  The event will be held on June 5th at Mashujaa Mnazi Moja Grounds.  Join the crowd and help share the message, "nature at your service protect it, reduce global warming"

World Environment Day will start with a rally from Posta ya Zamani at 8:00 in the morning with people and stilt walkers carrying different messages to Mnazi Mmoja where the crowd will be met by a representative from the Regional Commissioner's office.

Ecosystem and Livelihood Adaptation Network Workshop in Dar

Last week ForumCC hosted a workshop for the new Ecosystem and Livelihood Adaptation Network (ELAN), which is an initiative spearheaded by IUCN, WWF, CARE and IIED. The objectives of this workshop were to deliver a brief training on the role of ecosystem management approaches in building human resilience, to assess readiness, interest, and needs of practitioners and policy makers in Tanzania for enhancing integration of ecosystem approaches into human adaptation practice and policy.

10-10-2010: Calling for Action on Climate Change

On 10-10-2010 Dar es Salaam residents will ride bicycles from Mnazi Mmoja carrying climate messages to be heard world wide. The event is part of a global effort to get people from around the world to demonstrate to national and international leaders that people across the globe want real action on climate change.

While Africa's corporate world debated at the World Economic Forum in Dar es Salaam last week, the Tanzania Civil Society Forum for Climate Change joined the African People's Forum to bring together residents from across the country to discuss the impact of big business on climate change and livelihoods for the average Tanzanian.

In March this year in Tanzania a civil society forum on climate change provided its members with a report of CoP15 - a way for grassroots organizations in Tanzania to learn about the main outcomes and strategize local action to mitigate and adapt to climate change. Over 150 participants from mostly Tanzania, including partner activists from Uganda and Kenya, convened in Dar es Salaam for a 2-day session to learn and plan a coordinated reaction.

Youth witness to climate change

 At the National Climate Change Hearings in Dar-es-Salaam on Wednesday 2nd December, Tanzanians from around the country testified to the affects of climate change in their daily lives. The testimonies were provided inputs for the negotiating team from Tanzania to present at the international conference on climate change in Copenhagen, Denmark this month. Hon. Dr. Batilda Burian, the Minister of State in the Vice President's Office (Environment) was the keynote speaker and lead panelist. The event was organized by ForumCC - The Tanzania Civil Society Forum on Climate Change - with the support of DfID and Oxfam.
