An important new website documents the community development in the pastoralist communities of Northern Tanzania. The website (www.Ereto-NPP.org) documents the major work from the 10-year Ereto Ngorongoro Pastoralist Project.

From the website: "The Ereto, Ngorongoro Pastoralist Project (Ereto NPP) was active in Ngorongoro District from 1998 to 2009. Ngorongoro District in Northern Tanzania is the home to some 100.000 largely Maasai pastoralists practicing a mobile and open range livestock production. The district is large and remote and with limited access to government services. Poverty is widespread..."

First commercial timber harvest from a community-managed forest in Tanzania

For the first time, commercial timber was harvested in a community-managed forest in Tanzania. In Kikole village, in Kilwa District, people have opened up a new source of revenue by selling timber from their forest. The timber, which was sustainably harvested according to strict criteria, will eventually go to make high quality musical instruments for the global market.
