Workshop

Members of the media have been invited to attend an informational workshop on the Mama Misitu forestry governance campaign. The goal of the workshop is to initiate a network of media specialists to provide a coordinated approach to Mama Misitu's communications through print media, radio and television.

The Mama Misitu Media Network will be making its first visit to the campaign's targeted districts, Kilwa and Rufiji.

As part of the Mama Misitu campaign implementation, partners are meeting in Kilwa and Rufiji for a workshop on forestry governance.

TNRF will be facilitating a workshop on the implementation approach of Mama Misitu campaign. The Mama Misitu campaign is a follow up work of a report submitted by TRAFFIC who were conmmissioned by the Government of Tanzania and supported by the Developmemt Partners Group. The workshop will run for a full day on Thursday 14th August 2008 with its parners (NGOs) who are the implementors of the campaign with support from the TNRF campaign unit based in Dar Es Salaam.

Members of TNRF's Pastoral Livelihoods Task Force will meet to discuss the findings and action plan of the joint study called "Options for Pastoralists to Secure their Livelihoods", which was released in May 2008 and is available at the following link: http://www.tnrf.org/node/7487?group=57

The African Wildlife Foundation has received a grant from the Ford Foundation to implement a project titled "local communities and sustainable natural resources management: new learning about linkages.' The project aims to critically examine and share learning and knowledge on terrestrial CBNRM over the last five years or more in East Africa.

WWF is organizing a national workshop to initiate dialogue among interested parties on developing National Guidelines on Biofuel investments in Tanzania. The workshop is planned at Oasis Hotel, Morogoro from 9th to 11th June 2008. This initiative comes as stakeholders recognize that Tanzania has approved a number of biofuel development projects and that globally there are divided ideas on issues related to biofuels investments.

The course, including the 2 days field visits, is being offered for free by the University of Applied Sciences of Western Switzerland (UASWS) and the Swiss Development Cooperation. Ms. Andrea Finger Stich from the University of Applied Sciences of Western Switzerland (UASWS) and Mr Fred Nelson from the Tanzania Natural Resource Forum (TNRF) are faciltiating the course. The IUCN CEESP is associated with the course through its Group on Governance, Equity and Rights (TGER).
