The World Wide Fund for Nature with the Zoological Society of London and Global Footprint have released a report on the impact of human resource demands on the planet. According to the report,  three quarters of the world’s people now live in nations that are ecological debtors, where national consumption has outstripped their country’s biological capacity.

Ujamaa Community Resource Trust receives the prestigious Equator Prize!

UCRT - Winner of the Equator Prize 2008!

Ujamaa Community Resource Trust has received the prestigious Equator Prize for its groundbreaking support for community-based natural resource management and rights in Tanzania. As one of 25 such organisations from around the world, the prize will be awarded at the World Conservation Forum in Barcelona, Spain in October 2008. UCRT was selected out of a list of hundreds of grassroots organizations working on sustainable development. Ujamaa Community Resource Trust works with communities in Ngorongoro, Arusha, Mbulu, Simanjiro and Hanang Districts.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism has today provided tourism companies with an amended schedule to the Wildlife Conservation Act Non-Consumptive Wildlife Use Regulations GN 196 of September 2007. The Schedule is retroactive from 1st July 2008.

Getting wildlife management right for National Growth, Poverty Reduction and Conservation

A meeting was held on 28-29th April 2008 between the Wildlife Division, WMA Authorized Associations, Village and District Representatives and the Tourism Industry on Wildlife Conservation Regulations Pertaining to Wildlife Use on Village Lands, and in Game Controlled and Open Areas.

Following the inputs of the Wildlife Division, the report of the two day meeting has now been completed - and it is available in both Swahili and English.

The Stated Main Reform Objectives of the MKurabita are: • Providing the government with detailed policy, legal and institutional reform proposals, as well as an implementation strategy • Integrating extralegal real estate and businesses into the legal system in order to boost economic growth, reduce poverty, and eventually expand the tax base. • Getting the Poor majority who do not have access/titles to land have access to titled land and the capacity to use them economically.
