Programme Officer for Health Service Users Component
YAV is a fast growing Tanzanian NGO proudly working to improve policy and governance in the health sector with the vision to see a Tanzania where healthy and responsible young men and women enjoy equitable, affordable and quality health services as their basic right. We are looking for an individual to fill the position of a Programme Officer for Health Service Users Component
Overall Responsibilities: Your overall objective is to increase youth awareness, knowledge and active participation in health sector planning, implementation and tracking of health resources at district level. Engaging youth in the districts to demand and utilize quality health services is the main approach.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Effectively manage, implement and monitor component work plans and budgets, and other activities as may be determined in conjunction with the Executive Director.
- Translate into Kiswahili and popularize key identified health and HIV/AIDS policy documents with the aim to improve citizen participation and accountability of health service providers.
- Communicate and disseminate information generated by YAV and other stakeholders regarding social accountability in the health and HIV/AIDS sectors
- Improve the existing training materials and train youth volunteers in health sector reforms and district health systems to increase their participation in the participation of district health planning and monitoring of implementation of district health plans
- Implement a weekly interactive radio talk show for youth regarding health governance and citizen participation in social accountability, prepare T.V programs and monitor daily newspapers on information regarding quality of health services and governance in Tanzania
- Effect investigative journalism on issues of quality of health services and health sector governance
- Produce quarterly newsletter for YAV stakeholders
- Ensure smooth running and management of health clubs in primary and secondary schools in Kinondoni, Kibaha, Ilala and Temeke districts
- Write activity reports, quarterly reports, mid-year and annual reports
- Manage staff working under your component
Qualifications and Experience: Specifically, you will need: (a) BA degree with minimum 3 years experience, Masters degree preferred with at least one year experience (b) Knowledge and experience of governance and health policies and systems (c) Knowledge about district health system and its guiding policies. (d) Strong computer skills and experience in team work. (e) Solid skills in writing and speaking both English and Kiswahili. (f) Training and Facilitation skills. (g) Ability to work under tight deadlines and long hours as needed.
