The Durrell Endangered Species Management Graduate Certificate (DESMAN-GCert) 2009
This course is aimed at animal curators and middle management staff in zoos, captive management facilities or situations where intensive management of wild populations is required and lecturers in conservation related courses. All individuals who require a broad view of zoo biology, conservation biology and personnel and organizational skills for use in endangered species management in both insitu and ex-situ programmes.
A strong emphasis is placed within all study modules on the application of Information technology, and the importance of the scientific method.
Students are allocated time between the International Training Centre (ITC) facilities for the taught component of the courses, and within the zoological collection at Durrell. All participants have access to the staff working areas on animal sections, and access under supervision to off- view breeding and public exhibition enclosures.
The course is ratified by the University of Kent and successful candidates are issued their certificate by the University.
