IntroductionIn 1996 the President of the United Republic of Tanzania directed the Government to establish a National Website. In the year 2000 the Ministry of Planning, Economy and Empowerment (MPEE) was assigned to coordinate the setting-up and development of the National Website (TNW). The choice of the MPEE was in line with its mandate of being overall adviser to Government on matters pertaining to socio-economic development and economic management. The Tanzania National Website was launched officially by the President of United Republic of Tanzania H.E. Benjamin W. Mkapa on 09.12.2001. (speech)
